MatchDay 2 of the English Premier League returns with an extra clash between Aston Villa and Everton in the early kickoff. This will be the first ever meeting between Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard in their managerial careers.
Both teams had failed to claim a win in their first EPL game as Aston Villa lost 2-0 to newly promoted side, Bournemouth while Everton fell to Chelsea by a lone goal.

Match Preview

Both managers are under pressure to get a win especially as this will be their first ever meeting as managers. As players, they had met 34 times with Frank getting the upper hand with 16 wins as Gerrard squeezed 11 wins.

Gerrard had employed the services of Boubacar Kamara and Diego Carlos at the end of last season, not forgetting the permanent signing of Philippe Coutinho. However with all this new forces, Aston Villa still succumbed to Bournemouth in their opening game this season.
On the other side, the Toffees have been boosted by the return of Salomon Rondon from suspension. Meanwhile, new signings, Conor Coady and Amadou Anana have joined the Everton side from Wolves and Lille respectively.

Salomon Randy makes a return for the Toffees.

Due to the absence of Yerry Mina and Ben Godfrey, Conor Coady will be given his first competitive debut in the centre of Everton’s back three. Mason Holgate is also likely to make the starting XI while Alex Iwobi will maintain his position in the midfield.
With Demarai Gray most likely to drop to the bench, Salomon Rondon will be opportuned to make the final third.

FIFA confirms change in kickoff date for Qatar 2022 World Cup.

The 2022 Qatar World Cup will now kickoff a day earlier than originally scheduled with the host nation,Qatar, facing Ecuador in the opening match on November 20.

The opening game of the tournament was due to see Senegal face the Netherlands at 1pm (11AM GMT+1) on Monday November 21, but that fixture will now take place at 7pm (5pm GMT+1) on the same date.

The World Cup’s opening ceremony has been moved back by a day as a stand-alone event prior to Qatar facing Ecuador at Al Bayt Stadium, with a kick-off of 7pm (5pm GMT+1)

The change is in line with the long-standing tradition of opening matches involving hosts or reigning champions.

A FIFA statement released on Thursday included: “The decision followed an assessment of the competition and operational implications, as well as a thorough consultation process and an agreement with key stakeholders and the host country. The release period, as previously decided and as governed by the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players, will remain unchanged, beginning on 14 November 2022.

“Ticket holders will be duly notified by email that the relevant matches have been rescheduled and their tickets will remain valid irrespective of the new date/time.
In addition, FIFA will seek to address any issues arising from this change in a case-by-case basis.”

Preview: Sevilla 🆚 Osasuna; The Return of LaLiga Satandar🇪🇸

The city of Pamplona comes alive as Osasuna welcomes Sevilla to the Estadio El Sadar in the first LaLiga game for the 2022/2023 season.

Estadio El Sadar will host the first LaLiga game for the 2022/2023 campaign.

The just concluded LaLiga season saw Sevilla finish in fourth place, one point behind Atletico Madrid while the Los Nervionenses finished in tenth place.

Osasuna we’re promoted to the LaLiga in the 2019/2020 season as they were crowned champions in the Segunda Division in the 2018/2019 season. Since their promotion, they’ve finished their previous three LaLiga campaigns in 10th,11th and 10th places respectively.
In preparations for the new LaLiga season, Osasuna had participated in 7 preseason friendlies where they had recorded three wins in their last three games against Feyenoord, Burgos and Mirandes. On the other hand, Champions League side, Sevilla had taken part in six friendlies where they had gotten back to winning ways against Cadiz(ended 1-0 in favor of Sevilla) after consecutive losses to Arsenal and Leicester City.

Jagoba Arrasate’s side played out a goal less draw with Sevilla in February but they’ve failed to beat the Champions League side in LaLiga since 2013.

Rafa Mir is battling En-Nesyri for the centre-forward position while Jesus Navas and Karim Rakik are likely to start alongside Marcao and Telles at the back.

Nigeria International looking forward to life in Italy after signing for Cremonse

Nigeria International Cyriel Dessers is looking forward to successful spell at Serie A club, AC Cremonese.

Dessers linked up with the Grigiorossi from Belgian Pro League outfit, KRC Genk on Wednesday.

The Serie A newcomers beat Danish SuperLiga outfit, FC Copenhagen to the striker.

The 27-year-old has also played for clubs in the Netherlands.

“I have always dreamt of playing in Serie A, one of the top leagues in the world,” Dessers told the club’s official website.

“It’s going to be an exciting challenge, full of obstacles, but hugely stimulating, I can’t wait.

“Cremo, let’s dream together.”

Dessers left Genk after two years and boasts 11 goals in 43 appearances.

Nottingham Forest table N10.2 billion bid for seven-cap Nigeria international

Premier League new boys Nottingham Forest have firmed up their interest in Emmanuel Dennis by making a bid to sign the Watford striker this summer.

According to The Athletic UK (subscription required), the total fee inclusive of add-ons is in the region of £20million (approximately N10.2 billion in Nigerian currency) but the exact structure of the proposed transfer is unclear at the moment.

West Ham were rumoured to be contenders for the signature of the Nigeria international but have reportedly backed out of a deal, paving the way for Nottingham Forest to go all out to sign the 24-year-old.

If the deal materializes, Dennis would partner his international teammate Taiwo Awoniyi in Nottingham Forest’s attack.

The 2013 U17 World Cup winner became the Reds most expensive acquisition in history when he joined them in June from Union Berlin in exchange for 20 million euros.

Watford are open to the idea of selling Dennis so that they can slash their wage bill following demotion to the Championship.

Invited CHAN Eagles players report to camp ahead of Black Galaxies Clash

25 players have arrived the Super Eagles B camp in Abuja ahead of their Championship of African Nations tie with Ghana.

Enyimba FC goalie, Ojo Olorunleke, Water FC and Flying Eagles goalkeeper, Nathaniel Nwosu were first to arrive Sthe uper Eagles Camp at Bolton White Hotels at Wuse Zone 7 Abuja on Wednesday.

Remo Stars striker, Andy Okpe, veteran defender, Tope Olusesi, Katsina United defender, Sani Feisha, Christopher Nwaeze, Zilfikilu Mohammed, Haggai Katoh, Sadiq Abubakar, Godspower Aniefiok, Joseph Onoja, and Hafeez Nosiru later joined the party.

Later on Wednesday, other 13 players joined the team to expand the number to 25.

The CHAN Eagles will face Ghana in the first leg in Accra on Sunday, 28th August while the second leg holds at Moshood Abiola Stadium Abuja on Saturday 3rd September. The winners on aggregate will go on to participate at the 7th African Nations Championship in Algeria in 2023.

UEFA Super Cup Preview: Real Madrid 🆚 Eintracht Frankfurt🇪🇺

The Olympic Stadium in Helsinki is set to host the first European competition in the 2022/2023 season on Wednesday, 10th August, 2022. Real Madrid take on Eintracht Frankfurt in the latest edition of the UEFA Super Cup.

Recall that Real Madrid had defeated Liverpool by a lone goal in the last UEFA champions League final to claim their 14th Champions League title while Frankfurt defeated Scottish side, Rangers to pick up the Europa League trophy.

Real Madrid beat Liverpool 1-0 to be crowned UCL champions in the last edition.

En route to the 2022 UCL final, the Carlos Ancelotti’s side had knocked out big teams such as PSG, a relentless Chelsea squad as well as defending EPL champions, Manchester City. Real Madrid heads into the Super Cup without any injury worries. However, Reinier Jesus has been absent from training in preparations for a loan move away from the club.
Ancelotti will have a difficult time deciding whether to hand in a competitive debuts to Antonio Rudiger and Aurelian Tchouameni as they both seem to battle to become regular starters this season.
Rodrygo may still remain on the bench as Valverde has been given the go ahead to join Benzema and Vinicius Jnr in the final third.

CAF Champions League name changed and NFF to get 1 million Dollars for CAF Super League involvement

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is set to officially launch the Super League on Wednesday, 10th August, 2022 and more facts on how it will be staged have surfaced.

According to the update from the venue of the 44th CAF Congress Arusha, Tanzania , the competition will be officially launched on Wednesday and some modalities have been put in place to ensure its smooth running.

Among the fact that emerged is that the regular Champions League will have its name changed to African Champions Cup and also have its group stage abolished.

Another is that each member association that has its club in the Super League like the NFF will get $1 million US Dollars as a cash reward for participating in the competition.

While the relegated team’s from the competition will join the CAF Confederation Cup.

Emmanuel Deutsch pleads with management of Sunshine Stars to reduce personnel in Squad

The Coach of Nigeria Professional Football League club Sunshine Stars Emmanuel Deutsch has asked for a reduction in the size of the playing staff of the club.

The Cameroonian made the statements while addressing the management on Monday as the players embark on a two weeks break.

“Sunshine management did fantastically well in terms of welfare and motivation. No owing of salaries and bonuses. It is very good. This team could have achieved a lot but I already told you that you will play better towards the end of the season because I joined in the mid-season.

“It will take time for players that I didn’t recruit to adjust to my philosophy, but you can see we understand ourselves better towards the end.”

“I want to advise that the size of the squad be reduced to make the job easier, and players should be signed only on merit and with these success is guaranteed.

“I will still come up with my end-of-the-season report. Thank you”.

Arusha, Tanzania venue for 44th CAF General Assembly

The city of Arusha in Tanzania will tomorrow host 51 African countries during the 44th General Assembly that will take place at the Arusha International Convention Centre .

Home to two of some of the continent’s biggest clubs that regularly compete in the CAF inter-club competitions Simba and Yanga, Tanzania is an incredibly breathtaking football country.

For this reason, Arusha is a befitting host for this week’s meeting that will bring together football administrators from across the entire continent.

Tanzania Football Federation president Wallace Karia is excited, saying: “This is a historic moment for Tanzania. We have been preparing for this for months and finally seeing everyone arrive here in Arusha gives me great satisfaction as a Tanzanian.”

52 Member Associations of Africa will be represented at the 44th CAF Ordinary General Assembly.
